Ukraine builds 600 mile of death with 'dragon's teeth' to take out Russian forces

Ukraine is building a huge wall to defend its positions against Russian forces, accompanied by 42,000 concrete 'dragon's teeth' to hold up Moscow's vehicles.

Russian soldiers have made progress in recent weeks as they look to swipe back some of the territory lost in 2022.

Kyiv's men have lost ground, including in the crucial town of Avdiivka, which is now controlled by Russian forces.

But Ukraine's army has now built a 600-mile "wall of death" in an attempt to strike a knockout blow to Vladimir Putin's incoming tanks, armoured vehicles and fighters.

Images have emerged of huge concrete blocks, known as dragon's teeth due to their sharp shape.

Traps, trenches, and command centres have also been dug underground to launch surprise attacks on Russian troops.

A Dnipro official said that “strengthening the region’s defensive capability is one of the priority areas."

Ukraine has also set aside £27million for similar defence structures near Zaporizhzhia, the city where Ukraine's huge nuclear plant lies.

A downside to this plan, according to an expert, is that could leave Ukraine with a lack of flexibility on the battleground.

Edward Arnold, from the think tank RUSI, told The Telegraph: "The issue for the Ukrainians is they don’t want to just go static.

"If the lines go static and they don’t move at all, that’s not great from a political point of view."

While Russia has seized the initiative in recent weeks, a report by The Institute for the Study of War claims that Russia has made no recent gains as both sides clash in "positional engagements."

There has also been anger in Ukraine after Pope Francis suggested that Kyiv should "have the courage to raise the white flag" and surrender.

He told the Italian-language Swiss public broadcaster RSI: “When you see that you are defeated, that things are not going well, you need to have the courage to negotiate. You are ashamed, but with how many deaths will it end? Negotiate in time, and look for some country to act as a mediator.

"Don’t be ashamed to negotiate before things get worse. Negotiation is never a surrender. It is the courage not to lead the country to suicide.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hit out at the comments on Sunday: “This is what the church is — it is together with people, not two and a half thousand kilometres away somewhere, virtually mediating between someone who wants to live and someone who wants to destroy.”
