Two men took it in turns raping a teenage girl after trapping her inside a toilet. Both attackers were jailed for life on Wednesday (August 5) after being convicted of abducting and raping the 14-year-old victim.

A court heard how the girl had gone to the toilet when the men followed and intercepted her. They then assaulted her and dragged her inside a cubicle before taking it in turns to rape her. However, her younger brother, who was with her before she got taken, reported the attack and police were called. The men have since been convicted and put behind bars for life.

As reported by the Times of India, the girl was gang raped in the state of Uttar Pradesh on the evening of April 26, 2020. Police launched an immediate investigation following the attack and tracked down the men involved.

Local councillor Shrikrishna Yadav said following their conviction: "The two accused intercepted her, assaulted her and confined her inside a nearby toilet. They gagged her and took turns to rape her before family members, alerted by the victim's younger siblings, reached the spot."

Detectives launched an investigation two days later under Indian Penal Code sections 376DA (gang rape of a girl under 16 years), 342 (wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

On Wednesday, Special Judge Narendra Pal Rana sentenced both men to life imprisonment under IPC Section 376DA. However, local media has not reported their names or ages.

The court also imposed a 54,000 Indian Rupee (£421) fine on each attacker. It was added that some of this money will be used to aid the victim through her rehabilitation.
