UK weather maps turn purple and orange as 696-mile snow and rain storm hammers Britain

Unsettled conditions are likely to dominate Britain’s weather, with the latest maps showing rain and snow covering almost the entire country.

WXCharts maps for March 5 show a 696-mile snow and rain storm impacting the country ranging from Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands to the southernmost tip of the UK, Cornwall.

The maps, which are prepared using the Metdesk data, show that while the northern parts of the country will be covered in snow, the remaining areas are likely to be lashed by heavy rain.

The maps show that areas around Fort William in Scotland may see the lowest temperatures, with mercury levels plummeting to 0C.

According to the weather charts, stormy conditions will begin to settle in at midnight on March 5 and are likely to create chaos for almost six hours.

The heavy rainfall could leave a massive impact on areas around Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton, and Cornwall.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast between March 5 and 19 suggests some unsettled weather conditions with heavy rain and strong winds.

According to the forecaster, there are chances of some drier days in between; however, "wettest and windiest" weather may be seen around the northwestern parts of the country.

Overnight frost is possible in some areas during this period, the National Weather Agency has warned.

It stated: “ It may become a little drier and more settled towards the south or southeast around the middle of the month too, with the wettest and windiest weather possibly becoming more confined towards the northwest.

"Temperatures are likely to be a little above average overall, although cooler spells are likely in between frontal systems, and overnight frost is possible under clearer skies."
