UK storm alert: Britain to be battered by thunderstorms as Met Office issues warning

Large parts of Britain have been warned to brace themselves for thunderstoms and heavy rains as the recent sunny spell comes to an abrupt halt.

A Met Office yellow warning states: "Whilst not all places will see them, slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to some flooding and disruption in places."

The warning is in force in large parts of the south-west of England as well as south Wales.

A spokesman explained: "Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities are temporarily cut off by flooded roads."

They added: "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater."
