Tourist sneaked across Majorca hotel balcony and stroked woman’s leg while she slept

A tourist who allegedly sneaked into a hotel room in Majorca and touched a woman’s leg whilst she slept has been arrested. The woman allegedly awoke to find a stranger sitting on her bed stroking her leg in the early hours of August 11. 

Her partner, who was sleeping beside her, woke up and he managed to push the intruder out before seeing him enter the neighbouring room. Reception staff were alerted and officers found the German man, 23, inside the adjoining room. He claimed he did not know how he had got there and could not remember whether he had touched the woman.

Officers say an inspection revealed that only a small partition separated the terraces of the two rooms, which may have been how he entered.

Local police say the incident happened at a hotel on Playa de Palma, the 23-year-old was detained by the Policia Local at around 3am on August 11.

He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and unlawful entry.

It comes after tourists seemingly appear to be turning their backs on Majorca prompting holidaymakers arriving on the island to question why it is so quiet.

Last year, overtourism protests erupted across the Balearic Islands with campaigners chanting and graffitiing  ‘tourist go home’. It seems that protestors may have got what they wished for with Majorca recording its worst summer since before the pandemic. 

In a letter sent to Majorca Daily Bulletin one tourist who has been holidaying in Majorca for several years says he and his wife were “shocked at the lack of tourists” leading holidaymakers to question  ‘where have all the tourists gone’.

The letter read: “In late April this year my wife and I, who are in our 70’s came to Puerto Pollensa for a 10 day holiday. As we have been coming here for a number of years and have become friendly with bar owners, shopkeepers and restaurant owners. We were quite shocked as they were all saying the same thing ‘Where have all the tourists gone?’.”
