Princess Catherine surprised royal fans on Saturday as she made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with her husband and children. The Princess of Wales, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were all smiles as they stepped out to watch participants compete.

The family-of-five appeared very interested in the sports they watched, including netball, and spent time talking to players and teams. While their royal appearance was very exciting, they weren’t the only royals in the stadium. This is because they were also joined by The Prince of Wales’ uncle and auntie - Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie.

Edward and Sophie looked delighted to see the Wales’ family as they took to their seats in front of them, greeting them with hugs and smiles.

This sent royal fans into a frenzy, especially over Princess Catherine and Duchess Sophie’s sweet hug.

This is because the two royal women are known to be close, with this latest outing showing just how strong their bond really is.

One fan wrote on X: “Genuine friendship between them.”

Another said: “Catherine and Sophie = lovely royal friendship and family.”

Someone else commented: “Lovely to see their true friendship.”

Another person added: “I love the friendship they have and I totally agree, I think they are truly the best of friends.”

This is one of many occasions Sophie and Catherine have been seen warmly embracing one another, with the two royal women always looking happy and content in each other’s company.

It is believed they get on very well, with Sophie believed to have always been a great support to Catherine since she married into the Royal Family in 2011. It is believed Sophie was also a great friend to the princess during her cancer journey in 2024.
