Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have announced the pregnancy of their third child today. Buckingham Palace said the couple are "very pleased" about the news and that the King, who has been informed, is "delighted" for them.

The couple’s sons, August, five, and Ernest, two, are "very excited" to welcome a younger sister or brother to the family, the palace said on Monday. The announcement was accompanied by a picture of the two siblings holding a baby scan of the latest future royal arrival.

It comes hours after Jack Brooksban celebrated his 40th birthday over the weekend.

Buckingham Palace said in an announcement: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer.

"August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family.

"His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news."
