Prince Harry made a major blunder about Eton College in his bombshell memoir, Spare. The prestigious private school in Berkshire has come back into the spotlight after Kensington Palace announced that the Duke of Sussex’s nephew, Prince George, will enrol there this September.
While William has previously hailed his time at Eton, the same cannot be said of his younger brother. Harry mentioned Eton multiple times in Spare, which was released in 2023, but some of those times bore glaring errors.

Speaking about how the school was founded by King Henry VI in 1440, Harry referred to the Medieval monarch as “my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather”.

This is wrong, as not only did Henry VI have only one son who died without an heir during the Battle of Tewkesbury, but Harry's actual six-times great-grandfather is King George III, the grandfather of Queen Victoria, who died in 1820.
Another Eton-based error appeared during a segment about the late Queen Mother’s death in 2002. Harry made a mistake when referring to his whereabouts.
He wrote in detail about a call he received while studying at Eton College, telling him his great-grandmother had died on March 30, 2002.
But the Duke was not at Eton when the call took place. He wrote: “At Eton, while studying, I took the call. I wish I could remember whose voice was at the other end; a courtier's, I believe.

“I recall that it was just before Easter, the weather bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colours.”
However, Harry’s whereabouts at the time were well documented, and he went on a skiing holiday to Switzerland with his father and brother.
King Charles, Prince William and Harry arrived at Klosters, Switzerland, on March 29. But their holiday was cut short following the death of the Queen Mother, and the trio returned to Windsor by March 31.
But resurfaced photographs from the date place the prince on a skiing holiday at Klosters, Switzerland, on the weekend the Queen Mother died.
