Prince Harry 'grumpy' after being 'put on the sidelines' by Meghan Markle - expert

A royal expert claims Meghan Markle was the centre of attention during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's trip to Colombia this month - leaving Prince Harry out cold on the sidelines.

Harry and Meghan both received a stately welcome during their four-day trip to Colombia at the invitation of the vice president, Francia Márquez. However, royal insiders claim the trip was "all about Meghan".

Speaking on True Royalty TV's 'The Royal Beat', Matt Wilkinson, the royal editor for The Sun, said: "Harry looked a little bit grumpy. May I use his vocabulary - he perhaps looked a bit like ‘the spare!’."

He added: "A lot of it was about Meghan. A lot of the images and the words sent out to us via the [Sussex] press office, [not] just by a pool reporter… it was all about Meghan. The whole thing was created about Meghan."

He said: "I think it's really telling that he's going to New York without Meghan. Last time they went there, there was this whole fiasco with this catastrophic car chase, because it was a red carpet event that his wife was going to."

Prince Harry, 39, is due to travel to New York in September while his wife, 43, will stay put in Montecito with their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The last time the couple were in New York, Prince Harry, Meghan and her mother Doria Ragland were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase after being followed by paparazzi for more than two hours, according to his spokesperson. The pursuit took place after the Sussexes had attended an awards ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York in May.

Speaking of his upcoming trip, however, the royal editor added: "I think he was in the sidelines for most of Colombia. But New York is going to be all about him and his actual work, and I'm looking forward to that."

Harry will be in the Big Apple to "advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives" according to his representatives. The father of two will be busy with engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst.

The Prince will also be preparing to lead an event in honour of his mother, the late Princess of Wales, through the Diana Award charity.

This year the charity celebrates its 25th anniversary and the organisation was initially set up to "foster, develop and inspire positive change in the lives of young people". The charity also firmly holds the same belief of the late Princess Diana - ensuring the belief "young people have the power to change the world".

The Diana Award CEO, Dr Tessy Ojo wrote on social media platform X: "In our 25th year, The Diana Award is delighted to be leading an event with Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex in New York this September. The event will be driven by young people and their insights on the biggest issues facing their generation today."
