Prince Harry's upcoming visit to the UK, scheduled for later this spring, is anticipated to include a "brief and formal" meeting with his father, King Charles, according to insights from royal expert Tom Quinn. But his chances of reconciliation with his brother are less likey.
While the trip hasn't been officially confirmed, the Duke of Sussex is expected to participate in the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8. Although the details of his itinerary remain subject to confirmation, Harry's attendance is listed for the service, hinting at his likely presence.
"It won’t be quite so difficult for Harry to see his father, although that relationship is also fraught with pain and a sense of grievance", Quinn said. "But Charles knows Harry had a difficult childhood for which he, Charles, was partly responsible and so he is more forgiving than William."
Recent events, including interviews and publications involving Harry and his wife Meghan, have further strained relationships within the royal family, intensifying concerns about confidentiality.
During Harry's previous visit to the UK in February, prompted by his father's announcement of a cancer diagnosis, the Duke had a brief meeting with King Charles at Clarence House in London. However, the encounter lasted less than an hour before Charles departed for Sandringham.
Meghan Markle 'won't get warmest welcome' if she comes back to UK with Prince Harry in May
Meghan Markle has been warned she “won’t get the warmest reaction” if she opts to join husband Prince Harry at a service in London in May to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are on the guest list for the event, at St Paul’s Cathedral at 5pm on May 8 - and Harry is due to speak.
Speaking to Express yesterday, royal commentator and journalist Jonathan Sacerdoti said he would not be surprised if Meghan decided to skip the occasion - even though the Games have been consistently championed by her husband.
“I can’t say whether she will come back in May", he said.
“So far she’s avoided he country, perhaps sensibly.
“I don’t think she’ll get the warmest welcome here if she does.”
But now the Daily Mail's Richard Eden suggested that it's the right time for the Montecito couple to apologise and seek forgiveness from the Waleses, particularly after the brutal remarks they have made about her throughout the years and her "kind" efforts to rekindle the feuding brothers' relationship.
The Duke of Sussex launched a blistering attack on his estranged family in his explosive memoir Spare, which was released in January last year, and alleged his father's second wife Camilla Parker Bowles leaked and planted information about him to the press in order to improve her standing in the Royal Family.
Harry, who is set for a tense high-profile meeting with William at a personal event this summer, claimed Charles and Camilla, along with their "spin doctor", leaked stories about the prince's visit to a drug rehab centre in 2002 and threw Harry "right under the bus".
"I had complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who, I believed, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar," Harry wrote. "In a funny way I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she'd be less dangerous if she was happy? ".
“Meghan has calculated that the Kate health mystery and King Charles’ illness mean there is more attention on the Royal Family than usual, and that she might be able to benefit from some of that attention,” he said.
“She sees herself as suffering because of the media, just as she feels Diana suffered, but on this side of the pond at least, there will be a huge amount of criticism that she is just trying to cash in on Diana’s legacy.”
The Duke of Sussex is believed to have expressed hope to attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, later in May, to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games and whilst his travel plans have not yet officially been confirmed, it is "unlikely" he will be bringing his wife or their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the Telegraph reports.
nsiders said that with or without Meghan, Harry will most likely not be meeting with his brother Prince William or the Princess of Wales, following her cancer diagnosis announcement, as they've put the "Harry issue" to the back of their minds.
The Sussexes are often snapped hand in hand, in a departure from standard royal protocol which generally sees married couples avoid touching each other too obviously in public.
The Duke of Sussex has been living in the US with wife Meghan Markle since 2020 and recently spoke of a desire to spend more time in the UK. He is set to travel to the UK in May for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.
A well-informed source said of the prince in an exclusive interview with Daily Express US: "He is in self-imposed exile. He decided to leave in a hurry. I think he was spooked."
"He’s obviously haunted by his mother’s death, and he somehow managed to convince himself, or Meghan managed to convince him, that they were in some sort of imminent danger.”

The Duchess of Sussex began her American Riviera Orchard brand this month and is now looking for a CEO to help make her dream brand. But one critic says she's doing it in a weird order.
Royal commentator Richard Eden said it was "curious" as he talked about Meghan's business plans.
He shared: "This is quite curious in many ways. The firm which she has announced on Instagram and is already gaining many followers for, American Riviera Orchard, a lifestyle cookery brand. Loads of trademarks and everything. She's currently interviewing candidates to be the mastermind of her business."
The New York native, who lives in the UK but travels back and fourth between both countries, said Americans view the Royal Family like "a novelty" and "Disney World" and claimed they are "obsessed" about having access to what allegedly goes on in the Palace.
When it comes to Harry and Meghan however, the 55-year-old insisted the popularity for the pair overseas isn't quite there after they became a part of "the Hollywood clique".
In January 2020, the pair announced they were stepping down from senior duties to "carve out a progressive new role" within the family and had plans to become financially independent while still supporting the Queen.
