A huge fire has erupted in Nottingham city centre, with thick smoke filling the sky and the public urged to close windows and doors. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze on Curzon Street at around 11.30am today (May 31).

At least two witnesses described hearing a "big explosion" or "big bang" before a plume of smoke rose into the sky, according to Nottinghamshire Live. A number of police cordons have been placed around Huntingdon Street and Curzon Street. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We’re currently in attendance at a fire on Curzon Street in the city centre. Our joint fire control are receiving a large number of calls about this incident but please rest assured we are aware of the incident. If you live nearby please keep your windows and doors closed as there is a large smoke plume."
