Major supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco and Asda are urgently recalling several fruit packs after Salmonella was identified in tests. The bacteria, which causes diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting, was identified on apple and kiwis used in Prepworld packs sold at the stores.

The recall impacts 13 packs sold across Morrisons, Asda, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M&S. The Food Agency said there was a "possible presence of Salmonella" and warned customers "do not eat them". Customers were told to return the packs to the store where they were bought for a full refund.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products to explain why they are being recalled.

Outbreaks of salmonella are frequently traced to raw or undercooked poultry, meat, and eggs, unpasteurised milk and dairy products, contaminated fruits and vegetables, or contact with infected pets.

If you are experiencing salmonella symptoms, the agency said you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.

The Food Standards Agency often issues product recalls to alert the public about safety concerns. Last Sunday, it alerted Brits about Krispy Kreme Individual Pitch Perfect Doughnuts and the Match Day Dozen, because of undeclared hazelnuts in the ingredients.
