The Met Office's latest weather projections show the areas of the UK that are set to be hit with snow before Friday, March 6. 2026 has been off to a wet and blustery start, with rain on almost every day across the UK throughout January and February. While the days are getting longer and we are edging closer to spring, it looks like wintry conditions aren't going away completely any time soon. That is according to the latest predictions for the week ahead.

The Met Office's latest precipitation maps show patches of snowfall in a number of counties across the UK, namely in Wales, the North of England and a patch of Scotland. While snow is difficult to forecast, the Met Office has previously warned of the possibility of snow throughout February and the first half of March. Meanwhile, maps provided by forecasting service WXCharts show snowfall spread across the UK on multiple days in March. The Met Office map shows widespread snowfall on Thursday, March 5.

Snowfall arrives in the evening from around 6pm, starting in the west of the country and gradually spreading east, continuing through Friday and dissipating over the weekend.

The counties that are set to receive snowfall before Friday, March 6, are:

  • Cumbria
  • Lancaster
  • Northumberland
  • Tyne & Wear
  • Durham

Wales

  • Carmathenshire
  • Powys
  • Ceredigion
  • Gwynedd
  • Conway
  • Denbigshire
  • Wrexham
  • Flintshire

Scotland

  • Ross & Cromarty
  • Invernesshire
  • Nairnshire
  • Moray
  • Banffshire
  • Aberdeenshire
  • Angus
  • Kincardineshire
  • Perthshire
  • Argyll

While snowfall is predicted for these areas, rainfall is expected for even more of the country. The current Met Office maps show rainfall spreading from Scotland down to the South of England, as far south as counties like Devon and Cornwall.

The beginning of March will consist of patchy outbreaks of rain, according to the Met Office's current forecast. The weather service says that there will be bright spells in the east, but it will be breezy in much of the country.

Towards the end of this week, it will be "largely dry and settled for most, although rain will move into the west on Thursday." The forecast adds: "Patchy light rain and drizzle possible at times, but lots of bright spells likely."

From Friday, March 6 onwards, it looks like high pressure will dominate. "This means that many places will see plenty of dry weather with variable cloud amounts and some sunshine," the forecast says.

"The best of the sunny weather is most likely towards the south or southeast. Some overnight fog is possible given clear skies and light winds. However, frontal systems are still likely to affect the north and west of the UK at times, perhaps pushing further east on occasion, bringing some rain and strong winds, and perhaps some hill snow across high ground in the north."
