Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quit royal life five years ago, choosing to move across the pond to the US to carve out their own paths. Since then, the couple have been subject to growing criticism, with Meghan, 43, becoming increasingly unpopular in the UK.

While The Duchess of Sussex does have a strong fan base, she has faced criticism for a number of issues and even addressed the fact in the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan that she felt blamed for Harry’s decision to quit royal life. Since they left the UK in 2020, Meghan has also struggled to win royal fans over with her most recent work projects, including her Netflix show and her lifestyle brand As Ever.

Now, a royal expert has said that there is one thing left that could really destroy Meghan’s reputation even more.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Newsweek’s Chief Royal Correspondent Jack Royston said: “Imagine if Meghan left Harry, it would destroy her reputation.

“She would be eviscerated publicly because she's already slipped into this kind of category on social media, the way that pop culture commentators talk about her.

“They lump her in with these other famous women who are perceived as being narcissistic or being controlling of their husbands.”

Jack also said that not only would a split damage Meghan Markle’s reputation, but it would also leave Harry , 40, with nothing, especially in America.

Talking about this, the royal correspondent said: “They need each other. Without Harry she's nothing. And without her, Harry's life in America is nothing.”

While a break-up may damage Meghan’s reputation, it is not believed to be on the cards for the couple, who seem as in love as ever. Earlier this month, Meghan and Harry took a spa break to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary, with Meghan marking the milestone on her Instagram page by sharing a number of photographs of the couple over the years.

She also recently said that she feels she and Harry are back in the honeymoon phase, especially as Meghan’s work projects remind the couple of what life was like during their early dating days, when the duchess was an actress and had her lifestyle blog, The Tig.

The mum-of-two recently told People: “It’s almost like a honeymoon period again because it’s exactly how it was in the beginning when he’d watch me scribbling away, writing newsletters, fine-tuning edits and just really being in the details of it.

“I think he loves watching as much as I love doing that creative process. It’s just been fun. This is who I’ve always been.”
