Meghan Markle 'right' to use her royal title in business venture

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been dubbed the "modern-day" Duke and Duchess of Windsor, who caused controversy in 1936 when Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.

The couple's intention to marry and Wallis Simpson's status as a divorcée caused a constitutional crisis that led to Edward's abdication.

Royal author Alexander Larman, speaking to GB News, described Harry and Meghan as a modern-day version of the controversial royal couple.

He said that the Duke of Sussex's "haplessness" is similar to that of the Duke of Windsor, while Meghan's "steely determination" is similar to Simpson's.

Larman said: "I think they are very, very lucky to find each other because they've made two people miserable rather than four.

"Much of the same thing can be said about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor."

He went on to say that Simpson was "obviously Meghan's spiritual forebear".

Speaking about Meghan's new brand, he said: "I was looking at the American Riviera Orchard revelation the other day and I thought Wallis Simpson, who was obviously Meghan's spiritual forebear, would have done her own lifestyle brand - but with quite so crass a title? I don't think so."

When asked if he believed Meghan and Harry are the latter-day Edward and Wallis, he said: "I think they definitely are."

Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK as early as next month to attend the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The event will take place at St Paul's Cathedral in London on May 8.

The Games, a multi-sport event founded by Harry in 2014, is for men and women who have been wounded or injured serving in the armed forces.

However, it is not yet been confirmed if he will attend, or if Meghan and their two children will be there.
