Drivers on the M65 are facing severe delays following a serious crash involving several vehicles. The stretch of motorway in Lancashire is shut westbound between junction 4 and junction 5.

Emergency services have rushed to the scene. AA Traffic news has warned there are "severe delays" which are increasing on approach to the incident. National Highways North West wrote on X: "The #M65 in #Lancashire is closed westbound between J4 #Earcroft - J5 #Blackburn due to a multi vehicle collision. Emergency services are on scene. There are delays in excess of 30 minutes on the approach with 3 miles of congestion."

Diversion routes

Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs.

-Exit M65 J4 westbound

-At M65 J4 roundabout, follow Earcroft Way.

-At Earcroft Way/A666 Junction, turn right and follow the A666 northbound Bolton Road for approx. 1.4 miles

-At A666/A6062 roundabout, take the 2nd exit and follow the A6062 westbound Livesey Branch Road for approx. 2.2 miles

-At A6062/A674 roundabout, take the 1st exit and follow the A674 westbound Preston Old Road/Moulden Brow for approx. 0.7 miles

-At A674/A6061 Junction turn left and follow the A674 southbound Finnington Lane for 0.5 miles

-At A674 M65 Junction 3 Roundabout, re-join the M65 at J3 eastbound.

More than 30 minute delays

National Highways has confirmed the M65 remains closed westbound between Junction 4 (Earcroft) and Junction 5 (Blackburn) following a multi-vehicle collision.

Emergency services are at the scene.

Motorists are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes.
