The Prime Minister will sit down for his first grilling by the senior Commons Liaison Committee.

Watch live: Keir Starmer faces the Liaison Committee

Sir Keir Starmer is about to face down his first grilling at the hands of the infamous House of Commons Liaison Committee.

The harsh showdown is usually a tri-annual tradition, where the Prime Minister fields questions from the most senior committee chairmen on a number of crucial topics.

It will either show up the Prime Minister's grasp of detail around his job, or shine a light on areas of failure.

The Liaison Committee is formed of the men and women who chair parliament's other select committees, meaning those asking the questions are experts in their departmental fields.

Today's 90-minute session will focus on growth and the economy; public services and plan for change; and global affairs and security.

What is the Liaison Committee?

The liaison committee is the only body in the House of Commons which has the power to scrutinise the Prime Minister.

The liaison committee brings together senior MPs from across the House who sit as chair of the various select committees set up to scrutinise ministers and gather evidence.

Dame Meg Hillier MP will chair the session, having taken over the chairmanship from Bernard Jenkin.
