Alan says she was keen to be involved in the work, adding that she was keen to be part of the “whole process”.

Alan says: “We’ve changed materials and we’ve chosen them together and we’ve talked it all through to make sure that she’s happy with them.”

The show will return on June 6 and it is a one-day event showcasing a stunning garden display.

Floral exhibits will be in full bloom for visitors, with inspiring speakers and food also available. The event takes place in the scenic landscape of Windsor Great Park.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Sophie admitted she was “slightly nerve-wracked” about the “Plant with Purpose Garden”, but revealed that a lot of thought had gone into the design.

The garden will showcase plants which are friendly to a range of pollinating insects.

Some details included which are inspired by The Duchess' childhood, such as fruit bushes and trees.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she added: “As a child, I grew up around fruit gardens in Kent, and in my teens I’d go off cycling to the local farm to go and pick raspberries day after day.

“We had an old apple orchard in our garden and they were the most delicious apples: tiny, but delicious. And to be able to just take an apple off a tree, or pick a gooseberry…”

Alan also revealed how the collaboration came about. He said he spoke with Adam Scott who is the Duchess’s head gardener.

After suggesting the idea to Adam, he said he loved it and agreed to ask Duchess Sophie, reports Good Housekeeping.

After a phone call, Duchess Sophie said yes and then the pair met up for tea, coffee and biscuits to discuss their plans for the garden.
