West Midlands Police are investigating after a man in his 60s was stabbed in Birmingham last night. Police was called to St Saviours Road in Alum Rock, at around 11.55pm on Tuesday, July 7. Police said: "It’s believed he had been attacked by a number of men, who were described as Asian and wearing masks. He remains in hospital today."

West Midlands Police's investigation is at an early stage, and officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area. This comes after a police cordon was put in place and reports during the early hours of this morning of a substantial emergency service response, including several police vehicles and ambulances that were spotted at the scene by local residents.

Det Ch Insp Jim Mahon, of Birmingham Police, said: “We understand this is worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns over the coming days.

“There is currently nothing to suggest any connection with any other recent incidents in the area, but we are keeping an open mind about the motivation for what has happened.

“Our priority right now is identifying those responsible and bringing them in to custody as quickly as possible, and officers have been working overnight to gather evidence and speak to potential witnesses.”

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has footage from the area, is being urged to contact West Midlands Police.

West Midlands Police added: "We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or doorbell footage."
