A Somerset village staple due to shut in March as owner decides "it's time for me to retire".

After serving the area for half a century, a beloved Somerset stalwart is closing as its owner retires and the site goes up for sale. 

The Antiques Bazaar at the Old Textile Mill is Crewkerne’s largest centre for antique and vintage collectables.

It has served collectors, browsers, dealers and shoppers every day since 1976. But its owner, Anthony Bucke, is shutting the well-loved shop for a “well-deserved retirement”, he said. 

Announcing the Bazaar’s closure, the 72 year-old said “with mixed feelings but very happy memories, I have decided that after 50 years of trading in Crewkerne, it is time for me to retire”.

“The last 14 years at Antiques Bazaar have been amazing”, Bucke said.

“We have such a friendly, professional bunch of traders who have sourced some amazing stock to keep our customers flocking in”.

The Bazaar stocks a range of valuable vintage relics, such as a diverse selection of vinyl and CDs, bespoke designer furniture, clocks, crockery, lamps, clothing, and antique jewellery, with a local delivery service for larger items. Prices range from 50p to £1,000+ for rarer vintage gems. 

The shop also offers sales units for dealers to display their stock, along with the marketing, sales negotiating, and cash-handling to facilitate the transaction between seller and buyer. 

Bucke shared that his customers have spanned generations of families, not just from Crewkerne but across Somerset.

“Only this week, I delivered a large oak court cupboard to a young man who represented the third generation of his family, all of whom have been my customers over the past 50 years”.

The Antiques Bazaar will close on Tuesday, 31 March. The site is now being sold, with Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) marketing the premises. The site, including land and buildings, stretches to around 0.874 acres on a corner plot. It comprises two individual Class E units, suitable for a range of uses and with on-site parking. It is on the market with a guide price of £750,000.
