Bangkok shooting: 'Five dead' in Or Tor Kor Market attack

A shooting has taken place at the Or Tor Kor Market in Thailand, with five people killed, according to local media. It is believed the suspect took his own life after the shooting, and police had evacuated the area. Local media called the shooter a "deranged person".

Among the dead were security guard, a vendor, and the gunman himself, reported Thai news outlet Khaosod. The incident occurred at about 12.31pm local time at the popular market on Kamphaeng Phet Road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where officers found three people already dead and another individual seriously injured. CPR was performed at the scene before the injured person was transported to hospital.

Witnesses said the gunman was an elderly man wearing a black shirt, cream-coloured shorts, and carrying a military-style backpack.

He initially fled within the market grounds, prompting police to cordon off the area and prevent anyone from entering or leaving.

A short time afterwards, police discovered the body of another deceased individual — a vendor believed to have been shot during the rampage. Authorities later confirmed that the gunman had taken his own life while seated on a chair inside the market.

Police are continuing to secure the scene and have urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
