UK's 'unhappiest town' is just 40 minutes away from the happiest

London, a city renowned for its vibrancy and diversity, has been revealed to house both the happiest and unhappiest places in the UK, according to a new survey by property experts at Rightmove.

The Happy Home study, which surveyed 26,000 people nationwide over a year, found that feelings of pride, belonging and community were key contributors to happiness.

Access to green spaces and nature also played a significant role, with those residing near national parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty reporting higher levels of contentment.

After collating responses from 218 counties across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, the results painted a stark picture.

Hillingdon, a West London borough, ranked last in terms of resident happiness, closely followed by South London's Croydon in 214th place. East London didn't fare much better, with Newham and Barking and Dagenham ranking 213th and 212th respectively.

However, just a short 40-minute journey from Hillingdon, Richmond Upon Thames has been crowned the happiest place to live in the UK.

Kensington and Chelsea, another London borough, came in eighth on the national happiness scale. This was followed by the City of London (21st), Camden (23rd), and Wandsworth (25th), reports MyLondon.
