The Russian president said it was to mark the 80th anniversary of Russia’s victory against Germany in World War II.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday announced a three-day cease-fire in Ukraine, starting on May 8.
The Kremlin said Putin had ordered a full cessation of hostilities on “humanitarian grounds” to mark the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
TASS, the Russian news agency, said on its Telegram channel that the cease-fire would run from midnight on the start of May 8 to midnight at the start of May 11, following President Putin’s decision.
Ukraine, which agreed to a cease-fire earlier this month, has not yet responded to the announcement.
