Health Canada is recalling gas boilers, space heaters, and children’s sensory swings over fire, poisoning, and injury risks following reports of safety incidents in Canada and the United States

The federal agency issued three recall notices on Oct. 29, warning that the affected products could cause fires, burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, or injuries from falls. More than 44,000 units of the three products were sold in Canada, while nearly 370,000 were sold in the United States, according to the notices.

Health Canada issued the recall jointly with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the companies involved. All three products have been linked to reported injuries in Canada or the United States.

Health Canada is urging consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and contact their manufacturers for repairs or replacements.

Residential Gas Boilers

Health Canada is recalling 2,261 residential gas boilers sold in Canada between May 2021 and August 2025 because a defect could cause fires, carbon monoxide poisoning, or serious injuries.

The recall affects certain NTI and HTP brand residential gas boilers manufactured by Ariston Canada Inc., formerly NTI Boilers Inc., based in Saint John, N.B.

According to the recall notice, a component inside the boiler can crack during delayed ignition, allowing unburned gas to accumulate inside the unit. If the gas ignites, the boiler’s front cover could suddenly detach, potentially causing serious injury or death.

As of Oct. 16, the company had received two incident reports and one injury report in Canada. It also reported one incident and no injuries in the United States, where 4,726 affected boilers were sold. The company said it was aware of 34 instances in which the internal component had broken.

The recall affects certain NTI FTVN and TFTN models and HTP EFTU models. Consumers can check their boiler’s model and serial number against the list provided by Health Canada.

The agency advises consumers to stop using the boilers and contact Ariston Canada for a free upgrade kit and assistance arranging installation by a certified technician. Consumers who must continue using their boilers while awaiting repairs should ensure they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Space Heaters

Health Canada is also recalling 36,288 DREO portable space heaters sold in Canada, saying they could overheat and catch fire, posing burn and fire hazards. The recall affects DREO oscillating ceramic space heaters with model number DR-HSH015, manufactured between April 2025 and January 2026.

The black electric heaters measure approximately 29 centimetres wide and 33 centimetres tall and include a remote control. Consumers can find the model number and manufacturing date on a label underneath the unit.

According to the recall notice, the company had received one incident report and no reports of injuries in Canada as of Oct. 22. In the United States, where approximately 338,800 affected heaters were sold, the company received 16 incident reports and one report of injury.

The affected heaters were sold between September 2025 and August 2026 and were manufactured in Vietnam.

Health Canada urges consumers to stop using the heaters immediately and contact DREO for a free replacement.

Children’s Sensory Swings

Health Canada has also recalled 5,534 Harkla children’s compression sensory swings sold in Canada because their ceiling hooks could detach, causing children to fall and potentially suffer injuries.

The recall involves blue compression sensory swings equipped with a four-hole ceiling mounting plate. The affected products include the Blue Compression Sensory Swing, model LS-COMP-1BLU, and the Blue Compression Sensory Swing with Swivel, model LS-COMP-1BLU-SW.

According to the recall notice, Harkla received four reports of ceiling hooks separating from their mounting plates and one report of injury in Canada as of Oct. 23. In the United States, where 25,541 affected swings were sold, the company received 29 reports of hooks detaching and 17 reports of injuries.

The swings are manufactured in China and sold between March 2020 and April 2025.

Health Canada advises parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the swings and to contact Harkla for a repair kit containing a replacement ceiling hook mounting plate, safety strap, and updated installation instructions.

Consumers can register for a repair kit through the company’s recall website.

Health Canada also reminded consumers that federal law prohibits reselling, redistributing, or giving away recalled products in Canada.
